About Terminal Emulation

Today, new mobile computers, terminals, or client computers work with graphically attractive and user-friendly touch screens. Although Graphical User Interfaces, (GUIs) and web-based applications are widespread nowadays, it is still a challenge for some business processes to be able to work with modern applications and touchscreens.

These companies are still using legacy WMS, MES, and ERP systems running on mainframes or older servers. This includes Unix, Linux, IBM mainframes, AS/400 systems, etc. The systems are often based on text-based interfaces and require terminal access to communicate with them.

For years, terminal emulation software has enabled companies to efficiently connect to and work with these legacy systems. But how can you connect modern mobile computers with touchscreens to these systems and take advantage of all the modern new features and an intuitive user interface?

DatAction’s solution

DatAction offers several solutions specifically designed to enable organizations to work with legacy systems and mainframes through modern devices such as mobile computers, tablets, barcode scanners, wearable computers, and handheld devices with touchscreens. We do this by using modern tooling to create a graphic intermediate layer between the ‘legacy terminal emulation software’ and the hardware.

Features of DatAction’s Terminal Emulation solutions:

1

Easy-to-use interface: An intuitive and easy-to-use interface, suitable for virtually all modern mobile computers, PDAs, wearable computers, and tablets, making it easy to connect to remote systems and get started quickly. It minimizes the learning curve for users and does not require extensive technical knowledge to use.
2

Customizability and scripting: Extensive customization options and scripting to automate tasks and streamline workflows. We are able to create macros and scripts to simplify repetitive tasks, manipulate data, and perform complex interactions with external systems.
3

Emulation Protocol Support: Support all major emulation protocols, such as TN3270, TN5250, VT100, VT220, and more. This allows companies to connect to various legacy systems and mainframes, and work seamlessly across different interfaces.
4

Central Management: Centralized management capabilities that allow IT administrators to deploy, configure, and manage the software across multiple devices within the organization. This simplifies the management process and ensures consistency and control over the terminal emulation environment.
5

Integration options: Can be integrated with other IT systems and applications, including Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) and mobile device management (MDM) tools. This facilitates the seamless integration of Terminal Emulation functionality into broader business workflows and processes.

In our next blog we will describe two advantages and two challenges of Terminal Emulation. Would you like to know more now? Then contact us without obligation. We are happy to help you.
